1. Field of Application

Generators of rubidium-82 are intended for generation of radionuclide rubidium-82 which is used for non-invasive investigation of myocardial perfusion using the method of positron-emission tomography (PET) during the diagnostics and prognosis for the artery coronary disease. Use rubidium-82 generator makes it possible to estimate the myocardial perfusion with high sensitivity. Rubidium-82 generator may be used for investigation of brain, stomach, liver, kidneys.

2. Advantages of Rubidium-82 Generator

a) Ensures higher accuracy of the imaging (comparing with tallium-201, technetium-99m);

b) Makes possible to diagnose coronary vessels and to choose a strategy of treatment at early stage of disease. Radionuclide rubidium-82 may be used as a quantitative marker of viability or necrosis of myocardium tissue;

c) Reduces period of sequential imaging the investigation of the patient; makes it possible to perform sequential scanning of the investigational organ every 10 minutes;

d) Minimizes irradiation dose of the patient during investigation;

e) Makes possible to perform PET investigations in medical institutes without necessity to have expensive cyclotrons.

3. Manufacture of Radioisotope Rubidium-82

Rubidium-82 is a radiopharmaseutical preparation for positron-emission tomography. It is arisen in the generator through decay of mother radionuclide strontium-82. Radionuclide strontium-82 is on the adsorbent in the form of chloride. Strontium-82 chloride is eluted from the generator with the isotonic solution. In this case mother radionuclide strontium-82 remains on the adsorbent inside the generator.

4. Perspective of Rubidium-82 Generator Use

Now rubidium-82 generator does not manufacture both in Europe and Asia. Generator may be used in any medical institute equipped with positron-emission tomography both in Russia and Eurasian continent.

5. Technical Demands Compliance

All basic parameters of the radiopharmaceutical preparation eluate from the rubidium-82 generator (yield of rubidium-82, strontium-82 and strontium-85 breakthrough, sterility and apyrogenicity) and characteristic of generator as well follow all demands for goods and preparations of such type. It is ensured by the generator manufacturing technique.
